Hard drives are one of the areas of technology that more business concentration have been accused in recent years. In 2005, the acquisition of Maxtor by Seagate already ended with one of the favourite debates of fans to tinker with the PC on which company did best units.

Now it is western Digital that has purchased the Division of hard drives from Hitachi (known as Hitachi Global Storage Technologies or Hitachi GST) by the beautiful figure of $ 43,000 million. The new company's headquarters is in california and there has been no change in its Board of Directors.

The operation ends with Hitachi as a commercial brand of hard drives. For the moment it is unknown if western Digital will take part or all of the technology of Hitachi, her will combine with your own or create multiple lines of business depending on the type of unit. The only thing clear is that, except under markings, there are only three major manufacturers of hard drives in the world: Western Digital, Samsung and Seagate, few hands to a very large market.
